June 5, 2015, was a historic day for the Tadlock Roofing family.
First, we cut the ribbon on our newly opened Jacksonville office, with a promise to begin a new era for Jacksonville’s roofing industry and make a difference in the local community.
Then, we put action to our words by announcing a long-term partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville and presenting one of our neediest neighbors with a new roof, installation and a lifetime workmanship warranty – for free.
The elated homeowner, Ella “Jean” Singleton, an 11-year resident of the New Town neighborhood, had been living under a roof covered in tarps and boards, which hardly kept the elements out of her home. Unfortunately, she didn’t have the means to have it repaired. So, she went to Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville – or HabiJax – seeking assistance.
“I was wondering how I was going to get it fixed,” Singleton said.
During the June 5 event, her problem was solved, as she accepted a certificate for the life-changing gift from HabiJax and Tadlock Roofing.
Singleton was joined at the event by her granddaughter, Yasmine, who added through a big grin, “It feels great, and I’m glad that she’s getting her roof fixed.”
The WJAX-TV news team was also on hand and captured the news event on-camera.
HabiJax President and CEO Mary Kay O’Rourke told me that her organization is very appreciative of Tadlock Roofing’s support for families in our community. To me, that’s high praise, coming from someone whose organization has helped thousands of people with similar needs.
We’ve all had times in our lives when people have stepped up to help us, so I am very grateful to be in a position that we can help others. But mostly, I am glad Ms. Singleton is getting her roof fixed – and that our partnership with HabiJax will allow both our organizations to make a positive impact on our community for years to come.
