While roofing is our profession, serving our communities and making a difference is what Tadlock Roofing is all about. Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to sponsor the 8th Annual Children’s Safe Passage, Inc. Golf Tournament in support of the Children’s Sexual Abuse Prevention Coalition and the work they do to protect our children.
While this important coalition has made a remarkable impact in the Jacksonville community, the reason for its existence is sobering. Children’s Safe Passage was founded by Diena Thompson in memory of her 7-year-old daughter, Somer Thompson, who was abducted and murdered in 2009. Though it has been eight years since the murder of the young Orange Park girl, for us, and the rest of community, it feels like yesterday.
But, as we continue to mourn the loss of Somer, we are honored to help her memory live on by supporting her mother’s incredible efforts to seek out solutions to prevent violence and sexual exploitation against children in northeast Florida.
Since its inception, the Children’s Safe Passage Golf Tournament has raised over $165,000 to benefit the CSAPC.
At this year’s tournament, we saw Ms. Thompson stand proudly with the 42 golfers who raised more than $15,000 in her daughter’s honor. As the title sponsor, we were honored to present Children’s Safe Passage with a $5,000 donation. One-hundred percent of the proceeds are funding the costs associated with the delivery of Darkness to Light, a Stewards of Children training program in northeast Florida.
Ms. Thompson said that though the loss of a child to sexual violence is the most difficult pain to endure, with organizations such as CSAPC and the Stewards of Children education training, she is hopeful for the future. She also thanked Tadlock Roofing for our support.
Since 1980, Tadlock Roofing has set out to make a difference in the community and positively impact children’s lives through partnerships with advocacy organizations including the CSAPC, as well as other nonprofits throughout the state. Through these continued efforts we hope to help make the communities we serve safer for the children and families who live in them.
Join us in the fight to protect our children against violence and child sexual abuse. Please consider making a donation to the coalition today.
