Last year, I wrote a column about the impact of Hurricane Irma across the state of Florida, and how the storm served as a reminder to many that you never know when your city will be affected. Now that the 2018 hurricane season is upon us, I feel compelled to reiterate the importance of preparing your homes and families for the possibility of a hurricane or severe storm.
Hurricane season began June 1 and ends November 30, and while we have been fortunate that no major storms have made landfall yet, we still have many months of hurricane season to get through. Though it isn’t certain that your home will face the brunt of a major hurricane, at the very least, most Florida cities can expect heavy winds and rains associated with the season.
That’s why it is important to get someone out to inspect your roof and identify any problems before any rough weather begins. You will also need to look at any siding problems, clogged gutters and untrimmed trees that will make your home more vulnerable to storm damage.
