Nearly one in four children in Manatee County is unsure about the source and quality of his or her next meal according to the Herald Tribune. Blanche Daughtrey Elementary School is no stranger to the child hunger epidemic and poverty being faced by its student body, as the school enrolls 65% economically disadvantaged students. Local roofing contractor, Tadlock Roofing, was made aware of the school’s needs and is stepping up to the occasion by donating $2,000 to the school on Thursday, October 14 at 11 am.
In early September Tadlock Roofing initially partnered with Blanche Daughtrey Elementary School to purchase and deliver school uniforms for a handful of children who would otherwise go without. Tadlock’s branch manager, Brian Labrune, made the decision to take the partnership to the next level by making a considerable donation to afford the school additional resources.
“The Bradenton community has been an incredible supporter of our business, Tadlock Roofing, and we feel it’s important to give back when we can. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a child in need,” says Brian Labrune, Sarasota Branch Manager of Tadlock Roofing.
In Manatee and Sarasota County combined, there are 19 food deserts affecting 77,583 residents. It’s through grants, private donations, and community awareness such as this that schools are supported and gifted the resources to thrive.
